PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Police are investigating after a man was shot in his leg.

It happened Wednesday afternoon in the 1500 block of Prentis Avenue.

As the call was coming into dispatch, two detectives in the area working another case saw the victim lying in the street and responded to see what was wrong.

They noticed the man was bleeding heavily due to the gunshot wound. One detective removed his necktie and used his police baton as a tourniquet to help stop the man from bleeding until medics could arrive.

Once medics arrived, they took the victim to a hospital with serious injuries.

At this time, detectives do not have a motive or suspect in this case. Anyone with information about this or any crime that has occurred in the City of Portsmouth is asked to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
