ZUNI, Va. - Two brothers who worked in law enforcement were killed in a crash on Route 460 Monday afternoon, according to Virginia State Police.

State Police said the crash happened around 2:15 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of Route 460 east of Zuni. A preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of a two-axle 2000 farm equipment grain truck, ran off the road onto the westbound shoulder, over-corrected and crossed the center lines, striking a 2006 Plymouth PT Cruiser head-on.

The driver and passenger of the PT Cruiser, 60-year-old John Edgar Mallory of Chester, Virginia, and 65-year-old Earl Garnett Mallory II of North Chesterfield, Virginia, respectively, died upon impact.

The Mallorys worked for the Chesterfield County Sheriff's Office.

The driver of the grain truck, Walter Crocker, Jr., was flown to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with serious injuries. He was charged with reckless driving, failure to maintain proper control.

Officials say both directions of Route 460 in the vicinity of Yellow Hammer Road are now open after previously being closed.
