NORFOLK, Va. – A fatal three-vehicle crash Tuesday morning shut down part of a busy intersection on Norfolk’s Tidewater Drive.

Police responded to the scene on the Roland Park overpass in the 6400 block of Tidewater Drive shortly after 6 a.m.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of a Cadillac CTS was travelling northbound on Tidewater Drive when he lost control of his vehicle, crossed over the median and struck a Ford Escort head-on. The Ford was pushed into a Chevrolet Silverado travelling in the same direction.

The driver of the escort, 68-year-old Janis B. Neal of Hampton, was pronounced dead at the scene. The 48-year-old driver of the Cadillac was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for treatment and is expected to be okay. The driver of the Chevrolet, a 27-year-old man, was not injured.

No other vehicles were involved and no other injuries were reported. Police do not believe that alcohol was a contributing factor in this crash.

The Norfolk Police Traffic Fatality Team is investigating this incident and will turn over the findings to the Office of the Norfolk Commonwealth's Attorney for review upon completion.
