One dead, one injured in Gloucester house fire

GLOUCESTER, Va. – One person has died and another has been injured in a house fire in the 2700 block of Hickory Fork Road Tuesday.

Dispatchers received the call shortly before 2 p.m. and were advised that one occupant was still inside.

Crews arrived at the scene to find the single family home fully engulfed in flames, as well as one man outside of the house. A woman was found dead inside the home.

The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes.

The woman who died in the fire has been identified as 82-year-old Maezine Nixon, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her husband, 83-year-old Fredrick Nixon suffered significant injuries while trying to help his wife out of the fire. He was transported to a hospital and officials said his medical status is unknown at this time.

Authorities said the house is a total loss. The cause of the fire was ruled as accidental.

Approximately 20 people responded to the incident.
