PORTSMOUTH, Va. – A female employee was injured February 28 while on board the USS San Francisco.
The submarine is at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard and an official with the shipyard said the incident happened around 9 a.m.
The woman was identified as Colleen Sheehy, an assistant shift test engineer at Norfolk Naval Shipyard. She was injured while transiting a hatch, officials said.
Sheehy was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and was in critical condition.
March 6 Norfolk Naval Shipyard announced Sheehy was released from the hospital and is at home.
The cause of her injury is under investigation.
Shift Test Engineers determine and supervise testing performed on the propulsion plant systems.
USS San Francisco is being converted to a Moored Training Ship and has been since January 2017.
