Pedestrian dies at hospital after being hit by moving truck in Norfolk

NORFOLK, Va. – A pedestrian has has died at a local hospital after being hit by a moving truck in the 500 block of N. Military Highway Monday night.

The crash happened at 9:11 p.m.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a man was hit by a large moving truck while trying to cross N. Military Highway near the intersection of Poplar Hall Drive. The driver was not injured and stayed at the scene after the crash.

The pedestrian, identified Tuesday as 24-year-old Ronelle E. Franklin of Chesapeake, was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.

The NPD’s Traffic Fatality Team is investigating the crash. Once the investigation is complete, findings will be turned over to the Office of the Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney for review.

The northbound lanes of the 500 block of N. Military Highway are closed, and motorists should be expected to be rerouted.

No other injuries were reported, and there were no other vehicles involved.
