Norfolk middle school assistant principal dies at hospital after car crash in Chesapeake

CHESAPEAKE, Va. – A woman died at a local hospital after she was involved in a Sunday evening crash around 11 p.m.

Chesapeake Police say that LaDawn Durant, 44, was the passenger in a 2012 Chrysler 300 that was driving eastbound on Taylor Road, when the 38-year-old male driver, was trying to make a left-hand turn onto Taylor Court. This is when the Chrysler 300 that Durant was in made contact with an unknown vehicle traveling westbound on Taylor Road. The unknown vehicle struck the passenger side of the Chrysler 300.

First responders took Durant to Sentara Norfolk General, where she died from her injuries.

Durant was the assistant principal at Norview Middle School. Norfolk Public Schools issued the following statement after learning of her death:

Norfolk Public Schools (NPS) is extremely saddened by this news and again finds itself reeling from the loss of a member of its family.  Mrs. Durant was a beloved member of her school, the division and the community.  Her contributions to NPS are immeasurable and her memory will not soon be forgotten. Our thoughts and condolences go out to all those affected by this untimely tragedy.

Police have not charged or faulted anyone with the wreck. They say that they are still investigating the cause of the accident.
