LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. – Mason Foster’s 2017 season, his third with the Redskins, was cut short by injury. In a move that certainly won’t “hurt” the Redskins defense – Foster will return for 2018.

Foster, entering his eighth NFL season, tweeted a picture of him re-signing with the Redskins. He was set to become an unrestricted free agent in March. Foster told 106.7 FM The Fan in D.C. it’s a two year contract.

Foster (6-1, 250) originally entered the NFL as a third-round selection (84th overall) of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2011 NFL Draft. He joined the Redskins as a free agent in Week 4 of the 2015 season, appearing in 13 games during the team’s 2015 NFC East title run.

For his career, Foster has played in 91 regular season games with 76 starts, compiling 528 tackles (374 solo), 16 passes defensed, 7.5 sacks, six interceptions (including two returned for touchdowns), four forced fumbles and four fumbles recovered. Despite being limited to 34 games, his 187 tackles (134 solo) since joining the Redskins in 2015 are the third-most by a member of the Redskins in that time frame.

In 2017, before a torn labrum ended his season, Foster tallied 22 solo tackles and a half sack in five games.
