Man arrested, charged in connection to Norfolk homicide

NORFOLK, Va. – A man has been arrested and charged in connection to a Norfolk shooting that happened Sunday.

Norfolk Police charged 25-year-old Gary Lee Drew, Jr. with one count each of second-degree murder and malicious wounding and two counts of use of a firearm in commission of a felony.

Around 2 a.m., police received a call that a man had possibly been shot in the 1000 block of Ivaloo Street .

When police officers arrived on scene, they found a man inside a vehicle suffering from possible gunshot wounds.

An ambulance transported the man to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He has been identified as 31-year-old Claude M. Smith.

Police at the scene of the crime discovered another man inside the home suffering from a possible gunshot wound.

He was transported to the hospital with what appeared to be a non-life threatening injury.

Drew was arrested Monday by members of the Norfolk Police Fugitive Squad and U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force in Norfolk without incident. He is currently being held in the Norfolk City Jail with no bond.
