Man dies after falling from two story house at James City Co. construction site

JAMES CITY CO., Va. – Emergency crews responded to an incident that left a man dead Tuesday afternoon.

The Deputy Chief told News 3 a 60-year-old man, later identified as William Joseph Jowers of Gloucester, died after falling off a two story residential construction site.

The site was construction of a new house on Fenton Mill Road.

County Police, Fire and EMS crews were sent to respond to the scene around 9:30 a.m. Jowers was taken to Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. A preliminary investigation revealed that he was sanding while on the second floor of the site when he fell onto a stairwell on the floor below.

Jowers died as a result of the fall, officials said.
