Irma weakens to a Tropical Depression as it moves over southwestern Georgia

TAMPA, Fla. - Irma continues to weaken and is now a tropical depression as the center of the storm moves along over southwestern Georgia.

As of 11 p.m. Monday, the storm was centered about 5 miles east of Columbus, Georgia and about 95 miles south of Atlanta.

The forecast has Irma moving through southwestern Georgia and eastern Alabama on Monday night and Tuesday. Heavy rainfall continues across the southeastern United States. All Storm Surge Warnings and Tropical Storm Warnings have been discontinued.

Sustained maximum winds are near 35 mph with higher gusts.

Irma is expected to continue weakening and is likely to become a tropical depression on Tuesday. However, Irma remains a very large tropical cyclone with tropical-storm-force winds extending outward up to 415 miles.
