Possible unexploded ordnance found on new OBX island

OUTER BANKS, N.C. – The U.S. Coast Guard has closed off access to Shelly Island in North Carolina’s Outer Banks after what is believed to be a possible unexploded ordnance was discovered.

Dare County Emergency Management is working to determine what exactly was found.

Coast Guard crews from Station Hatteras Island and Station Oregon Inlet are enforcing the restricted area.
