WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The Williamsburg Shopping Plaza will soon be renovated.

It will include different elements that may appeal to residents, college students and visiting tourists.

CEO of Broad Street Reality Michael Jacoby said, "The city is a very finite area and I think it'll be a good revenue generator for the city in terms of sales tax, food tax."

Broad Street Realty is taking on the multi-million dollar project, along with its partners Bridger Corp & Lamont Street Partners with the cooperation of the City Of Williamsburg.

The project will include new landscaped pedestrian boulevard, a public plaza, art work, wide sidewalks and bike lanes, along with new residential buildings, new retail storefronts and a new hotel.

Along with the new, Midtown will retain some long time popular businesses such as Sal’s by Victor, the Virginia ABC store and Food Lion.

One of the goals of this project is make it pedestrian and cycling friendly place. More bike racks, crosswalks and a traffic circle will also be added.

A hotel will also be built. It's something Jacoby said they're not many in walking distance Midtown Williamsburg.

"They're no other hotels that that are truly walking distance to the college of William and Mary or Colonial Williamsburg anymore," added Jacoby.

Construction will start early 2018 and will be completed in December 2019.
