NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – A fatal crash shut down traffic at the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel Saturday night.
According to VDOT Hampton Roads officials, northbound travel lanes of I-664 were shut down due to a fatal multi-vehicle crash before 10:00 p.m.
State Police were called at 9:19 p.m. to investigate the crash, which occurred south of exit 7 in Newport News.
A police spokesperson says 25-year-old Reginald Jordan Jones was driving a Yamaha motorcycle, speeding in the left lane and attempted to pass a Toyota Echo on the left closed shoulder.
The motorcycle made contact with the jersey wall and hit the back of the Toyota.
Jones was thrown from the motorcycle and died on impact.
Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, police say.
A second, separate multi-vehicle crash in the southbound lanes also happened Saturday night.
