Hampton Police investigating two gunshot victims overnight

HAMPTON, Va. – Police are investigating a shooting that happened Wednesday night.

Around 12 a.m.. a report was received about a shooting that had just occurred in the 100 block of Rip Rap Road.

Officers responded and began checking the area and found the victim, a 22-year-old Hampton man, suffering from a single gunshot wound.

Police said the victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment of what are considered to be non-life threatening injuries.

As police investigated they found the victim was in the area of Rip Rap Road when a vehicle approached the victim. Someone within the vehicle then began shooting at him.

At 12:04 a.m., officers were contacted by staff of a local hospital reporting a walk-in shooting victim.

This victim was transported to the hospital by a personal vehicle and was he dropped off before officers got to the scene.

Officers responded to the hospital where they made contact with the victim, an 18-year-old Newport News man, who was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds that are considered to be non-life threatening, police said.

The motive and circumstances for both incidents are unknown and remain under police investigation.

Police said investigators are working to determine if the incidents are related but at this time that cannot be confirmed.
