VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Virginia Beach Police have arrested a man accused of exposing himself to a girl near the Chick-fil-A on Virginia Beach Boulevard near Independence Boulevard.

Virginia Beach Police say the girl was walking down the street when a man came out of the bushes and exposed himself to her.

An off-duty law enforcement officer saw the incident occur and started chasing the man. Virginia Beach Police then responded to the area to help search for the man.

William Olivier Sobran, 26, was arrested for felony assault of a police officer and indecent exposure on June 20, about three weeks after the incident.

Virginia Beach Schools notified parents at four schools following the incident:

Good afternoon, this message from Virginia Beach schools is being sent on behalf of the principal at your child’s school . As you know, student safety is a top priority for everyone in our schools. With that in mind, we want to make you aware of a police matter that happened in the Pembroke area this morning. Police say a juvenile was walking near Columbus Station when a man jumped out of the bushes and exposed himself. Although this incident did not happen on school grounds, it is a reminder of the need to speak with our young people about personal safety. If possible, students should travel in a group or with friends when walking in the neighborhood. Additionally, tell your children that if  a stranger approaches them, they should run away and immediately report the incident to an adult. We appreciate your partnership in reviewing these important safety reminders with your children. Keeping the lines of communication open among students, the home, and the school will result in a safer, more secure community for all. Thank you.
