CHESAPEAKE, Va. - Police are investigating the robbery of a Wells Fargo in the 600 block of N. Battlefield Blvd.

Jemsny Bonnet

The incident happened on Wednesday at 1:45 p.m.

Witnesses told police a black male came into the bank, armed with a handgun and demanded money.

When the suspect received the cash from the teller, he ran out of the bank.

No one was injured.

Oscar Smith High School was briefly put on a precautionary lock down while officers searched for the suspect.

"Police asked for buses going in to the Riverwalk area to be held.  Students at Oscar Smith High, Crestwood Intermediate, and Crestwood Middle that live in the Riverwalk area were not dismissed," said Chesapeake Public Schools Spokeswoman Kellie Goral. "The schools communicated with parents, letting them know of the situation.  They advised that parents may pick up their child if they wish or transportation would be provided once the police advised us that it has been deemed safe for dismissal."

All students had been picked up by 4:30 p.m. Police told the school that the buses were allowed into Riverwalk except at the intersection of Loose Strife Place and Willow Point Drive.

Police and a tactical team were looking in the 1400 block of Loose Strife Place area for the suspect.

25-year-old Jemsny Bonnet was taken into custody around 8:30 p.m.

Charges are pending for the bank robbery, police said.
