CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Mayor Alan Krasnoff said the city has to do more to plan for future growth.

The city currently has about 240,00 residents, but is expecting almost 300,000 by 2040, Krasnoff said during his annual State of the City address on Thursday afternoon.

“I’ll ask the city manager and city council in May to begin a new strategic planning process to ensure we have a committed vision with the clarity and vision to guide what happens in our city as a whole,” Krasnoff told the more than 750 guests in attendance at the Chesapeake Conference Center.

Krasnoff announced last month he plans to run for Circuit Court Clerk. If he wins the election, he will have to step down as mayor. His term runs until 2020.
