HAMPTON, Va. - Sen. Mark Warner says improvements are still needed at the Dept. of Veterans Affairs. He visited the medical center in Hampton on Monday afternoon.

"I'll tell you I'm going to be back. This is just not acceptable," Warner said during the visit.

He said things are improving at the VA, but a number of challenges still exist, including long wait times, outdated scheduling software, and a confusing system for some veterans to get reimbursed.

Warner also says Virginia Beach needs a medical center, and is frustrated Congress hasn't approved it. "It's just crazy not to get through, so that we can relieve the burden here on [Hampton]," he said.

Warner hopes veterans feel things are getting better. "I hope they would be hopeful, but I don't think we're going to see this turned around tomorrow," he said.
