Police identify man shot and killed in Norfolk homicide

NORFOLK, Va. - Norfolk Police are investigating a homicide that happened early Wednesday morning.

Around 12:30 a.m. dispatchers in Norfolk received several calls from citizens who heard gunfire. When police got to Lead Street, they found an adult man lying in the street.

First responders pronounced the man dead on scene. He has been identified as 19-year-old Tiqan L. Benthell.

The shooting happened in the parking lot of Mission College Apartments, off of Princess Anne Rd., less than a mile from Booker T. Washington High School and Norfolk State Univ.

The case is being investigated as a homicide.

Detectives are looking for the person or persons responsible for Benthell's death.
