HAMPTON, Va. - The Crowne Plaza hotel in Downtown Hampton will soon have a new name and a new identity.

Richmond-based Shamin Hotels closed on a deal Tuesday to purchase the around-30-year-old building, which has changed names a few times.

It will be renovated and turned into a Hilton, becoming one of the first hotels nationwide to fall under the chain's new, upscale 'Tapestry Collection' brand.

"The whole Downtown Hampton depends on everyone being strong and being together and I think what they're gonna be doing is gonna do nothing but help Downtown Hampton," said Doug Reier, owner of the nearby Bull Island Brewing Company.

Regional Director of Shamin Hotels, Naresh Patel, tells News 3 the new look is still in the design phase, but the company would like to have renovations finished in a year.

The Crowne Plaza property is Shamin Hotels' 50th. It already owns the Hampton Inn in Hampton's Coliseum Central.
