CHESAPEAKE, Va. - Chesapeake Public Works crews are up and at em' early Friday morning gearing up for the winter storm headed our way.

The snow may not hit until Friday night or Saturday but preparation starts now at the three supply locations for Chesapeake road crews.

Public works crews are expected to be out treating the roads across Hampton Roads all weekend. Thursday consisted of equipment checks and vehicle preparation as crews made sure they had adequate fuel and salt in supply.

Chesapeake plows will be focusing on the primary and emergency roads like Dominion Blvd., Route 168 and Portsmouth Blvd. Secondary roads may not get plowed because there are limited resources to get to those, and keep up with the main streets.

Drivers are advised to stay home and off the roads if possible. If you absolutely have to be out, stay clear of plows and salt trucks as they will be trying to work as efficiently as possible and traveling all over the city.

Freezing temperatures could plague our area until next week so drivers are advised to travel with caution as roads could be slick even after the snow stops falling.
