Though the incident was not related to the school, Bethel High School sent this statement to parents on Wednesday night:

“Good Evening Bethel Parents. This is Ralph Saunders, principal. I am calling to inform of an incident that occurred near our campus today. Two vehicles off campus exchanged gunfire. At the time of this incident, school was dismissed and there is no evidence to suggest that this is school related. An adult male on our campus was struck by a stray bullet and has non-life-threatening injuries. We followed lockdown procedures for a brief amount of time. All afternoon and evening activities were cancelled and will be rescheduled.

We take the safety and security of our campus very seriously, and it is unfortunate that this off-campus incident was brought onto school property. Thank you for your continued support of Bethel High School.”

Residents in the area ares on alert but say this is uncommon and therefore they do not have a negative opinion about the school or the area itself. They do, however, say they will remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to police.
