HAMPTON, Va. - Community members say shootings need to stop after several happened in recent days.

On Tuesday, police say a man was shot on Shell Road just after noon. When officers arrived, they found a 21-year-old man suffering from a single gunshot wound. The victim was taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay. According to police, the victim was walking in the 1800 block of Shell Road when a vehicle pulled up next to him and someone began firing at him.

It happened just down the street from Ric's Barbershop. "It's just a shame to see something like that," said Richard Edwards, the Barbershop's owner. "It's constantly going on every time you turn around."

Police have not released a description of the suspect or suspect vehicle. Detectives are continuing to investigate the motive for the shooting.

Another shooting on West Queen Street has a man fighting for his life. A shooting on Christmas Day even happened in the parking lot of Barron Elementary School.

"It can be in the middle of the day or late at night," said Edwards. "It doesn't matter."

Edwards has held events to try and stop the violence and says it takes education and the community viewing itself as a family for the violence to stop.
