NORFOLK, Va. – Girl Scouts of the Colonial Coast gathered at the Norfolk International Airport USO Service Center Saturday to donate boxes of their fall products, nuts and candies to the USO.

The Girl Scouts will donate nearly 2,000 boxes of their products to the USO, according to a spokesperson.

The sweets and treats were given to the USO by “Cookie Captains,” teen Girl Scouts who help mentor younger scouts and participate in special service projects.

The donation is part of their annual Gift of Caring Program.

“Girl Scouts have really embraced the Gift of Caring program that is part of our fall product sales,” GSCCC CEO Tracy Keller said. “Community service is a very important part of Girl Scouting and this is one way girls can help others. We love working with the USO and have partnered with them on many projects, including Gift of Caring. They will be part of our 2017 Girl Fest taking place at the Military Aviation Museum and will help provide much needed volunteers, along with sponsoring an interactive booth to help girls learn about the military branches and how the USO is an integral part of supporting military members and their families.”

The Girl Scouts have participated in the Gift of Caring Program for over a decade.
