Hollywood legend Kirk Douglas is celebrated his 100th birthday Friday.

The actor-producer is known for his films “Spartacus,” “20-Thousand Leagues Under the Sea,” and “Paths of Glory.”

Douglas has been nominated for best actor three times, and received an honorary Oscar in 1996 for his work as a creative force in the film community.

He is celebrated his birthday by announcing a new book, written with his wife of 62 years, called “Kirk and Anne: Letters of love, laughter and a lifetime in Hollywood.”

His website says he spent time with his family and friends, including his son actor Michael Douglas.

Douglas has said his proudest accomplishment in Hollywood was to help break communist blacklisting by insisting that Dalton Trumbo get onscreen credit for “Spartacus.”

He has also said he never wanted to be in movies and always considered himself a stage actor.
