First Warning Traffic- Weekend Road Closures

This weekend we have road work that will close down several brides and tunnels. If you use the HRBT, Midtown Tunnel or travel near or around Lee Hall you can find the details you need to save you some time and frustration this weekend on the roads!

I-64 Widening Project, Newport News/York County/James City County:

  • Segment I: There will be a single-lane closure on I-64 between Lee Hall (exit 247) and Jefferson Avenue (exit 255) starting at 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning:
    -Eastbound: December 12 and December 15
    -Westbound: December 13 and December 14
    There will also be alternating single-lane closures east- and westbound on Fort Eustis Boulevard between the I-64 on- and off-ramps on December 11 through December 15, starting at 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning. There will be intermittent traffic stoppages lasting up to 20 minutes on I-64 east and west at the Fort Eustis Boulevard Bridge on December 11 through December 18, starting at 11 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning. Stoppages will only take place in one direction at a time.
  • Segment II: There will be alternating single-lane closures on I-64 east and west between Route 199 (exit 242) and Lee Hall (exit 247) on December 11, through December 14, starting as early as 7 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning

I-64 Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel:

  • Intermittent stoppages: to last up to 10 minutes eastbound and single-lane closures eastbound as follows:· Eastbound single-lane closures December 12-15 from 9 p.m. until as late as 5 a.m. the following morning.
  • Eastbound Intermittent Stoppages: December 14-15 from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning.

US-17 James River Bridge: 

*Single-lane closures southbound and northbound.One lane will remain open at all times:

  • Northbound December 11-15 from 7 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning.
  • Southbound December 12-16 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.

US-17 George P. Coleman Bridge:

*There will be a bridge opening to last up to 30 minutes on December 8 beginning at 8 p.m.

I-64 High Rise Bridge:

*Alternating lane closures as follows eastbound and westbound. One lane will remain open at all times:

  • Eastbound/Westbound December 11 from 5 a.m. until 10 a.m.
  • Eastbound/Westbound December 12-14 from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning.

I-564 Eastbound/Westbound, Norfolk:
Monday, Dec. 12, through Friday, Dec. 16

  • I-564 east, 5 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
    Lanes closed: I-564 right shoulder/right lane
  • I-564 west, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.Lanes closed:
  • I-564 left shoulder/left lane

Saturday, Dec. 17

  • I-564 east, 5 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
    Lanes closed: I-564 right shoulder/right lane

Motorists should be alert for lane closures and alternate routes prior to traveling in the work zones.

The I-564 Intermodal Connector will connect the existing I-564 through Naval Station Norfolk and to Norfolk International Terminals, part of the Port of Virginia. The new high-speed roadway is expected to decrease congestion, redirect heavy truck traffic from Norfolk city streets, and provide improved access for the 80,000 vehicles entering and exiting the Navy base every day.

*Single-lane and dual-lane closures as follows. One lane will remain open at all times:

  • Eastbound dual-lane closures December 13-15 from 7 p.m. until 4 a.m. the following morning between Terminal Boulevard and Norfolk Naval Station Gate 3A & 3.
  • Westbound Runway Tunnel single-lane closures December 15 from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m.
  • Westbound Runway Tunnel single-lane closures December 15 from 2:30 p.m. until 5 p.m.

I-64 Peninsula, Hampton:

*Lane closures as follows. One lane will remain open at all times:

  • Eastbound: Triple-lane closures December 11-15 from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning between Hampton Roads Center Parkway and Mercury Boulevard in Hampton.
  • Eastbound: Dual-lane closures December 11-15 from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning between Magruder Boulevard and Mercury Boulevard in Hampton.

I-64 Southside, Norfolk:

*Lane closures as follows. One lane will remain open at all times:

  • Eastbound/Westbound: Dual-lane closures December 12 from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning between Military Highway and I-264 Interchange in Norfolk.
  • Westbound: Dual-lane closures December 13 from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning between Northampton Boulevard and I-264 Interchange in Norfolk.
  • Eastbound/Westbound: Dual-lane closures December 14 from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning between Military Highway and Northampton Boulevard in Norfolk.

VA-199 Westbound, James City County:

*Alternating lane closures westbound on VA-199 at VA-132. One lane will remain open at all times:

  • December 11-14 from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning.

VA-134 Eastbound/Westbound, York County:

*Alternating lane closures eastbound and westbound on VA-134 at Elizabeth City Circle. One direction will shut down at a time:

  • December 11-14 from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning.

Military Highway Continuous Flow Intersection, Norfolk:

*Alternating and single-lane closures as follows. One lane will remain open at all times:

  • December 11-17: Alternating single-lane closures northbound and southbound from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 7 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning on Military Highway between Valley Drive and Lynn Street.
  • December 11-17: Alternating single-lane closures eastbound and westbound from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 7 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning on Princess Anne Road, between Sigmon Street and the intersection of Military Highway.
  • December 11-17: Alternating single-lane closures eastbound and westbound from 9 a.m to 3 p.m. and from 7 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning on Northampton Boulevard between the intersection of Military Highway and past USAA Drive.
  • December 11-17: Alternating single-lane closures eastbound and westbound from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 7 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning on Robin Hood Road between Ellsmere Avenue and Miller Store Road.

Courtland Interchange Project: U.S. 58 Eastbound, Southampton County:

*Consecutive left-lane closure eastbound on U.S. 58 between Old Bridge Road (Route 742) and Shady Brook Trail (Route 650). One lane will remain open at all times:

  • December 12-16 from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.

U.S. 301 (Sussex Drive), Greensville County:

*Single-lane closure northbound on U.S. 301 at Three Creeks Bridge between I-95 on-ramp and Route 614 (Otterdam Road). One lane will remain open at all times:

  • December 5-9 from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.

US-17 Southbound, Isle of Wight County:

*Single-lane closures southbound at Smith’s Neck Road (Route 669) in Carrollton. One lane will remain open at all times:

  • December 5-9 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Smith Neck Road (Route 669) Northbound, Isle of Wight County:

*Single-lane closures northbound at Carrollton Boulevard. One lane will remain open at all times:

  • December 5-9 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.

US-13 (Lankford Highway), Accomack County:

*Single-lane closures southbound at Coastal Boulevard (Route 609). One lane will remain open at all times:

  • December 5-9 from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m.

U.S. 58 Eastbound, Southampton County:

*Consecutive right-lane closure eastbound on U.S. 58 between the Pretlow Street Bridge and the Suffolk city line at the Blackwater Bridge. One lane will remain open at all times.

Elizabeth River Tunnels/Martin Luther King, Jr. Freeway:

*Please check Elizabeth River Tunnels website for the latest closure and detour information regarding the Downtown Tunnel, Midtown Tunnel and the MLK Freeway.

I-564 Intermodal Connector, Norfolk:

George Washington Memorial Highway (Route 17), York County:

*Crews are widening the road between Route 630 (Wolf Trap Road) and Route 706 (Hampton Highway). Daytime single-lane closures, from 9 a.m.to 3 p.m. and weeknight single-lane closures, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Expect traffic shifts and delays.
