Proposal for new military mural

The hotel was formerly the Flagship Resort Inn and is now under new management known as the Howard Johnson hotel.

Hotel management said the paint had chipped in areas and was letting water into the building,

Welty says he was  inspired to create the mural after the September 11 attacks. He was concerned how painting over the mural would look to the military community.

On Thursday hotel management proposed to commission Welty to repaint a mural honoring the men and women of the United States Military.

The proposal says the mural will include the USS Enterprise CVN-65, VFA-31, VFA-103, and VF-143 “shown in a unique and striking tribute.”

The design process is set to be completed on March 1, 2017 if Welty approves.

The proposal is for $35,000.

Welty says they met with hotel management and he is reviewing the proposal with his partners and will get back to them.
