JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – There is a robbery and hostage situation at the Community First Credit Union in Jacksonville, Florida.

Police report that there is one suspect inside with multiple people.

There was a call into 9-1-1 that there was a person shot but they have not been able to verify if that is true.

Hostage negotiators and a SWAT team are on scene, but police are not sure how many people are inside.

“At this time we believe there’s one suspect who was trying to commit a bank robbery to the bank…there’s multiple individuals inside the bank, it’s unknown exactly how many, said Melissa Bujeda with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. “We don’t have a verified number. I can say multiple people we believe inside the bank. And we further got a call that one person had been shot but we haven’t been able to verify any of that information.”

Authorities have evacuated nearby businesses and are asking people to avoid the area.

They’ve also asked that people not take pictures or video of the scene because it could reveal the position of the SWAT team.
