CHESAPEAKE, Va. - Four generations, together on thanksgiving, celebrating Beatrice Fitchett-Harrell’s 104th birthday.

"I am surprised to say the least,” Harrell said. So many people are standing there, staring at me, I didn't know what to do or what to say.”

A lot has changed in the past 100 plus years. Beatrice says it’s like two different worlds but her family's bond has stood the test of time.

“I look forward to see the youngsters in my family grow up to be --- well maybe I won't be around but I want them to be good adults and I look forward to the best of luck for all of you,” Harrell.

Thursday's celebration has become a yearly tradition.

With no children of her own, Beatrice`s family wants her to never forget the impact she`s had on their lives.

“When I was nine months old, my mother used to get sick all the time --- this is really my aunt but she raised me,” Charles Williams told News 3. The impact was great.”

Even though Beatrice is now in a wheelchair, her family says that hasn't slowed her down.

“If I want to get something done and want it done right, I want it done right and if you`re not gonna do it right, don`t do it at all. If you do it wrong, I`m gonna let you know,” Harrell said.

The former school teacher says she's had plenty of help on her continuing 104-year journey

“There`s nothing so good that I have done but it was the good lord that brought me this far,” Harrell told News 3.

The family is already getting ready for next year’s celebrations.
