Jimmie Johnson wins record-tying seventh Sprint Cup Championship

HOMESTEAD, Fla. – Jimmie Johnson joined elite company on Sunday at the Ford EcoBoost 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. He earned his record-tying seventh championship as a driver, tying Dale Earnhardt, Sr. and Richard Petty.

Rounding out the final four was Joey Logano, Kyle Busch, and Carl Edwards.

The race was led for 132 laps by runner-up Kyle Larson, while Kevin Harvick led for 79. Johnson only led the final three laps.

Johnson’s prior championships came during a stretch in 2006 to 2010, and in 2013.
