CHESAPEAKE, Va. - A family had several items stolen from their truck sometime Thursday night or early Friday morning.

The credit cards and gift cards are replaceable, however, the family says one item has a piece of them that they will never get back.

"It's something that's very sentimental you know, it's our daughter, you can't replace things like that," says Robert Avila.

The thieves stole an hour glass pendant containing the ashes of the Avila's daughter, Katherine.

The 17-year-old passed away suddenly in August.

"It's indescribable, she meant everything to us," he says. "We carry her everywhere we go, every one of us has one except for now me, I don't have it anymore."

Robert says he left the pendant in the cup holder of his truck so he could bring it to the jewelry store to get a piece fixed.

His neighbor texted him early Friday to say that a part of his Navy uniform was in the street, and he immediately knew something was wrong.

"Somebody has my daughter with them right now, I just want to make sure that I'm able to get her back."

"It's just so personal you can't replace it," says Yvonne Avila, Katherine's mother.

The Avila's put signs on the truck in the hopes that the thieves come back, see it, and realize what they took.

They are encouraging them to keep everything they stole, even the necklace chain, if it means they can get back the only piece of Kathryn that they have left.

"That's all I want, just give me Kathy back."

Chesapeake Police are investigating the theft and they are asking anyone with information to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
