It's time to take out the trash!

News 3's Kristen Crowley tried her hand at something she has never done before... hauling trash.

A job overlooked by many but one that offers great money and requires more skill than you may think! Kristen joined the crew at Select Recycling Waste Services in Chesapeake to be put through the ringer as a "trash engineer" for the day.

Danny Meeks, owner and operator at SRWS, setup numerous pieces of equipment and trash pickups to see if Kristen could really handle the job.

During the crash course in waste management, Kristen took on the Roll-off Truck, the Bobcat, the Excavator, residential cans and the Frontload Truck with some bumps and a lot of laughs!

It is not an easy job but for those that love big equipment and a productive work environment, it is a pretty rewarding career.  Kristen managed to make it through all of her tests, did not hit anyone, and did not break anything. Bonus!

After the day was done she received her official grades of mostly A's and a B-. Not too shabby for the first day on the job with little to no training!

Select Recycling Waste Services focuses on trash pickup and recycling. They recycle almost sixty percent of the trash they haul in. The rest of the trash goes to the landfill but recycling is the priority there. They handle construction pickups, commercial sites, and some residential as well.

If this is job you want to try to take on, drivers are required to have a Class A drivers license or CDL.
