Join us all week as we try out more jobs on News 3 This Morning!

All this week, News 3 is taking a shot at your job. We took a break from the anchor desk to try our hand at everything from trash collecting to zoo keeping.

We sent Myles to join the Navy... at least for the day!

He was put to work on the USS George H.W. Bush, but had no idea what the job actually was until he arrived.

After boarding the Nimitz-class carrier, the first step was safety training and equipment -- coveralls, eye protection, double ear protection, respirator, and a face shield.

Petty Officer 3rd Class Iris Torres was teaching Myles how to remove the non-skid material that covers most of the decks. “Pick it up. Push the button. Pull the lever.”

“So it’s just like construction, picking up tiles, but in this case it’s not tile,” Torres said.

It is not tile at all. It’s a rough, stone-like coating that prevents slipping when wet or in humid climates.

They used a deck grinder and a needle gun to remove and chip away the rough surface. This is just the first step in a multi day process of removing the old, sanding, cleaning, priming, and reapplying.

“I actually enjoy the work I do, even though we work long hours, I enjoy the work. I am always busy and I learn a lot. This is stuff that I can actually use in the civilian world too," Torres said.

Myles says, “It’s a tough job. It’s a dirty job. It’s probably going to take me hours to complete."

Torres told Myles, with a chuckle, that he did a good job and he would get the job!
