‘Operation Wedding Gown’ to donate dresses to military, first responder brides

NORFOLK, Va. – Brides Across America and Operation Wedding Gown are teaming up with House of Maya Bridal Salons to donate a free wedding gown to military and first responder brides.

The event will be held on November 11 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Maya Couture, located at the Best Square Shopping Center in Norfolk.

Brides who qualify for the program will be able to choose from over 100 designer wedding gowns, sizes 2 to 20.

To register, go to www.bridesacrossamerica.com and fill out the registration form with a $30 donation.  Once Maya Couture receives the bride’s completed registration, an appointment will be made for the bride to choose a gown.

Check to see if you qualify for the program:

  • You must be engaged and planning a wedding within the next 18 months.
  • If you are a military bride, you or your fiancé have had a deployment within the past 5 years or have an upcoming deployment. If you are a first responder bride, you must be an active, police officer, fire fighter, EMT, or paramedic.
  • Deployment areas that qualify are Iraq, Afghanistan, Qatar, Bahrain, Libya, Kuwait, Korea, Japan, Africa, Syria, Ukraine and other areas overseas. (USCG protecting our waters or boarders and on a ship for 3 or more months during the year.)
  • Submarine, special ops and navy orders will also be accepted.
  • You may qualify if you had a civil ceremony and now planning a formal wedding.

Brides must bring a driver’s license, military ID or work ID for verification on the day of the event.

If you are a military bride, you must bring a copy of deployment orders for you or your fiancé or an official letter stating name, location and date along with a signature. If you are a first responder bride, bring a copy of your certification that matches your valid ID.
