Kevin Brennan (I) – Candidate for Poquoson City Council – Central

Kevin Brennan (I), running for Poquoson City Council – Central Precinct

1. Why am I running for office?

Want to foster economic growth and development, increase the tax base of the City through economic growth while maintaining a stable tax rate. Support the continue excellence of the school system and the infrastructure (Police, Fire, Rescue, Library, all City Departments). Focus on environmental issues and concerns.

2. Why should people vote for me?

These are interesting and challenging times. There is much work to be done in all areas of the City not only to maintain the wonderful quality of life we enjoy but also to improve it in every area. The core values and shared vision that the City embraces will be promulgated in the current rewriting of the Comprehensive Plan that will guide us toward 2025 and beyond. I pledge that I will always keep the Comprehensive Plan in the forefront of my decision making as it is the embodiment of the city’s wishes and desires. It is not the time for uniqueness; nor the time for uninformed decisions; nor the time for inexperience leading the charge. However, it is the time for the election of a candidate that embodies experience, maturity, proven leadership and an understanding of Government and its give and take, and an understanding that one decision has significant impacts across a wide spectrum of other issues. I believe myself to be that candidate and humbly ask your support by voting for Kevin Brennan on Nov 8th.

4. What is the biggest problem your area is facing, how will you fix it?

These are indeed challenging times and it is certainly not the time for complacency. Regardless of our size, Our City faces the same issues that larger cities face: economic growth, land use, housing, quality of life, infrastructure, community services, and the environment. These issues are not separate and equal but are intertwined with one affecting the rest. For example, a land use or economic development issue will affect both infrastructure and environmental management. Much needed and deserved salary increases among our fine teachers, police, fire fighters, library staff, and other departments will have tax implications that will require the careful and delicate balance of economic growth and infrastructure. The decisions that the next city council will make are not simply black or white, on or off, go or no-go; they are decisions requiring maturity, experience, empathy, caring, and understanding. I believe wholeheartedly that I am the candidate of choice to bring Poquoson into the next decade as a better place to live, work, play and pray.

7. What do you do for a living? Why do you do it?
