Student arrested after North Carolina school fight, 13 injured breaking it up

HERTFORD, N.C. - A student has been arrested after a fight in Perquimans High School on Thursday.

The fight occurred around 8:45 a.m. when one student attacked another student.

According to the Superintendent, the fight was in response to an incident that occurred off campus on Wednesday.

Three other students were involved which caused the fight to be between five students in total.

The Superintendent said up to 13 people were injured while trying to break up the fight. Those injured sustained bruises, cuts, scratches, and one concussion.

The 13 injured included teachers, staff, and the principal of the high school.

The student who was initially attacked used a fire extinguisher during the fight as a projectile in an aggressive manner. No other weapons were involved.

Perquimans County EMS responded to the incident and set up staging areas.

No one was transported to the hospital in connection with this incident.

The student who initially attacked the second student has been charged and bond has been set.

Charges are still pending for the other four students involved.

Law enforcement is investigating and reviewing surveillance video from the hallway in which the incident occurred.

A call was sent out to parents Thursday morning informing them of the situation.
