ISLE OF WIGHT Co., Va. – Deputies are investigating after a person was assaulted when leaving work Tuesday night.

Around 9:18 p.m., an employee of Virginia BBQ in the Eagle Harbor Commons Shopping Center was walking to their car parked at the rear of the location.

The employee heard a noise coming from a dumpster area. After investigating the noise and not finding anything out of the ordinary, the employee turned and was walking toward their car when they were attacked and assaulted.

The employee struggled with the attacker but broke free. The attacker fled the area on foot, possibly towards the 7-Eleven on Carrollton Blvd.

The victim was taken to Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News and released Wednesday morning.

The suspect was described as a male around 5’9” tall weighing approximately 190 pounds. He was last seen wearing dark colored clothing with a dark colored mask or hoodie covering his face.

Investigators with the Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office are actively following up on this incident.
