VIRGINIA BEACH, Va - An 87-year-old man was carrying groceries into his home when he was robbed by two young adults, according to police.

Jerry McDonnell said he had his arms full with milk and other groceries and was headed into his home in the 900 block of Campion Court around 2:30 p.m. on October 10 when a young man grabbed him from behind him and threw him to the ground, just feet from his front door.

"I had the groceries in my arms and I heard a noise behind me. I turned around and this guy was putting his arms around me," said McDonnell .

McDonnell said the man took his wallet and shouted to an accomplice, "I've got it".

McDonnell had a few minor injuries from the fall.

"I got to Jerry and he was laying on his side and his knee was bleeding and he was disorientated," said Kirk Balfanz who rushed over to help McDonnell , "the most cowardly act I've ever seen."

The New Jersey native has been living in Virginia for several decades and said this is the first time in his life he has ever been robbed.
