Police search for suspect driver who hit and killed pedestrian in Newport News

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - A pedestrian was killed on Tuesday night after being hit by a vehicle, according to police.

Police Dispatch got a call about the incident around 7:35 p.m. in the 6100 block of Jefferson Ave.

Police say the pedestrian, a white male in his 40s-50s, was walking westbound on Jefferson Ave. when he was struck by a light color pickup truck.

The suspect fled the scene traveling northbound.

Police say the possible suspect vehicle could have front-end damage and may be missing a side view mirror.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by Newport News Fire Department medics.
