VIRGINIA – A Republican National Committee source says that the Trump campaign has decided to pull resources from the swing state of Virginia, essentially conceding the state to Clinton, CNN reports.

The news comes after Trump’s now-former Virginia campaign chair, Corey Stewart, was fired Monday for organizing a protest outside of the Republican National Committee’s headquarters. Stewart said despite being fired, he will still support Trump.

Stewart reacted to the campaign’s announcement on Facebook Wednesday evening:

However, John Fredericks, a Virginia spokesperson for Trump, said the claims are not true.

A poll released by Hampton University Monday showed Hillary Clinton 12 points ahead of Trump in Virginia in the 2016 presidential election.

When Virginians were asked if the election were held today, 46 percent said they would vote for Clinton, while only 34 percent said they would choose Trump. Twenty percent of voters are still undecided.

The difference is a major change from one month ago, when Clinton was only ahead by two points, a statistical dead heat.
