Hurricane Matthew brought high water to roads all across our area.

If you found yourself in too deep, here's what you need to do.

First thing, don't start the car! Whether you know how much flood water your car has been through because you drove through it, or if you found your parked car with water damage, do not start the car.

"Water gets sucked up through the snorkel and heads to the air filter," says John Turner, with Accurate-Tune Plus in Norfolk.

"Just get the car towed, most insurance companies will cover that," says Turner.

You also need to make a claim with your insurance company.

"Whether there's damage now or not, water could cause electrical problems down the road," says Turner.

Always report what happened to your insurance company and let a repair shop assess the damage.
