NORFOLK, Va. - New Virginia Tech head football coach Justin Fuente has three children - all daughters. Their names: Cecilia, Caroline and Charlotte. So his life at home might be full of C's, but through five games as the Hokies' new bench boss - Fuente is earning A's across the board.

Saturday in soggy Chapel Hill, Tech torched the Tar Heels, 34-3. Remember, North Carolina was the preseason pick to win the Atlantic Coast Conference's coastal division.

Replacing the legendary Frank Beamer in Blacksburg was no easy task. In a recent interview with Seth Davis, Fuente said Beamer's best advice was to just be himself.

After the game Saturday, we got a glimpse of that self. News 3 sports director Adam Winkler asked Fuente what it was like watching his players, ranked in the top 25 for the first time since September 2014, celebrate with Hokies fans who endured Hurricane Matthew to watch their team play a game on the road.

"The Hokie nation didn't care if it was raining," Fuente said. "That was pretty powerful. It makes you really proud to get the chance to work here. I sure would like to win ballgames for these people because they sure are passionate about their kids and about their Hokies. It was a pretty cool experience."

Fuente was named Virginia Tech’s head coach on Nov. 29, 2015. The Hokies are 4-1 on the season and 2-0 in ACC play.
