VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - A Virginia Beach neighborhood is in shock as they drive and walk by a massive tree pulled out of the ground during Hurricane Matthew.

Shannon Augustine lives on Lakewood Circle and her home was the tree's target. The branches from the top of the tree landed on the roof and the truck parked outside.

"I could be in a lot worse shape, people have been flooded out and lost everything so I'm grateful it wasn't any worse," said Augustine.

Augustine believes the ground beneath the tree was so saturated due to previous rain and that's why the tree and entire root system came out of the ground when the wind picked up.

Rain and moisture has been dripping into the house due to the damage, but Augustine said she cannot have the tree removed until insurance comes to assess the damage. Not to mention there is a power line entangled in the branches!

She and about seven other homes in the neighborhood have been without power since late Saturday night.
