Police arrest driver who fled scene after knocking over telephone pole on Hampton Blvd.

NORFOLK, Va. – Hampton Boulevard was closed between West Little Creek Road and Terminal Boulevard after a vehicle knocked over a telephone pole.

The incident involved two vehicles and occurred around 7:30 a.m., according to Norfolk Police.

29-year-old Rhianna Avila, was operating a Ford pick-up truck on Hampton Blvd., when she collided with another vehicle near W. Little Creek Rd. The vehicles ended up striking a light pole, bringing down power lines.

Avila fled the scene before police arrived and the other vehicle involved in the accident stayed at the scene. The driver who stayed was treated for minor injuries.

Shortly after the crash, detectives found Avila at her residence in the 7400 block of Hughart Street.

Avila has been charged with a felony hit and run, and is at Norfolk City Jail.

The intersection where the incident occurred was closed for nearly six hours as Dominion Power replaced the power pole and downed power lines.
