CHESAPEAKE, Va. – A 38-year-old man was killed in a crash on I-64 in Chesapeake early Sunday morning, according to Virginia State Police.

The crash happened around 2 a.m. on I-64 just east of Military Highway.

Police say a 2012 Freightliner tractor trailer had stopped in the right lane due to a tree that had fallen into the roadway as a result of high winds from Hurricane Matthew.

While the tractor trailer was stopped, a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado ran into the back of the truck.

The driver of the Silverado, 38-year-old Anthony E. Longoria, suffered life threatening injuries and was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital where he later died.

Police say Longoria was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. At this time, it is still unknown if alcohol was a contributing factor.
