First Warning Forecast: Gusty winds to persist overnight

Post-tropical Cyclone Matthew continues to pull off to the east, leaving us with dry and clear conditions into the overnight hours. We will however still be dealing with gusty winds overnight and Monday. Winds will start to taper heading into Monday afternoon. Plenty of sunshine on tap for Monday with highs in the mid 60s. Tidal flooding will still be a concern at times of high tide on Monday. We will also continue to see moderate to major river flooding, especially the Cashie River in Bertie County.

Overnight: Starlit with windy conditions. Lows in the mid 50s. Winds: N 20-30 mph G 40

Monday: Mostly sunny and windy. Highs in the mid to upper 60s. Winds: N 10-20 mph G 30

Tropical Update–This will be the last update from the National Hurricane Center.

Winds beginning to diminish along the North Carolina coast from Post-Tropical Cyclone Mathew. Water levels will remain elevated overnight. All tropical storm warnings have been discontinued. As of 5:00 pm, the center of Matthew was located about 200 miles E of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. The system is moving toward the east-northeast near 15 mph. This general motion is expected to continue through tonight. Maximum sustained winds are near 75 mph with higher gusts. Gradual weakening is forecast during the next day or so, and the low is expected to be absorbed within a frontal boundary Monday night.

Nicole is slowly strengthening  and is forecast to become a hurricane on Monday. Nicole is expected to begin a slow northward movement soon. TS Nicole is located about 560 miles south of Bermuda. Nicole is nearly stationary. A slow northward motion is forecast, followed by a turn toward the north-northwest by Monday.
