NORFOLK, Va. – President Obama granted a total of 102 sentence commutations on Thursday.
He has now commuted a total of 774 sentences which is more than the previous 11 presidents combined.
Two of Thursday’s sentence commutations were drug related and the men are from the Hampton Roads area.
Aaron Keith Covington of Newport News was granted a commutation on his offense of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute cocaine and cocaine base, four counts of distribution of cocaine base, six counts of possess with intent to distribute cocaine base, six counts of distribution of cocaine, two counts of possess with intent to distribute cocaine, and money laundering.
Covington was sentenced in 2000 to life imprisonment with 10 years supervised release.
His prison sentence was commuted to a term of 30 years imprisonment.
Rodrickus Antonio Jamison of Portsmouth was granted a commutation on his offense of distribution of five grams or more of cocaine base.
Jamison was sentenced in 2006 to just over five years imprisonment with four years supervised release.
His prison sentence is now commuted to expire on February 3, 2017.
