SUFFOLK, Va. – The Habitat for Humanity of South Hampton Roads held an open house Saturday at the construction site of nine new homes.

The open house was in the Lake Kennedy section of Suffolk.

During the open house, people were able to tour finished homes and fill out applications to live in them.

Each home is built for a single family with three to four bedrooms and a monthly payment of $650 – $750. The homes are sold to families with zero percent net interest, no closing costs and a minimum down payment.

Organizers say they still need people to apply for the homes.

To qualify, the family must have need for an adequate shelter, show the ability to pay for a Habitat home and demonstrate a willingness to partner with Habitat for Humanity of South Hampton Roads. Applicants must have lived in Chesapeake, Isle of Wight, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Smithfield or Virginia Beach for at least one year.
