NORFOLK, Va. - Crossfit boxes across Hampton Roads are taking action to help a Portsmouth woman fighting ALS.

Beth Prever, who lost 100 poundsdoing Crossfit in 2014, was diagnosed with ALS earlier this year. The diagnosis was a strange twist of fate for Prever, who had spent years raising nearly $800,000 for ALS research through her job at Towne Bank.

“I just sobbed,” said Prever after learning of her diagnosis in April. “I thought how can this be?”

Through Saturday, different Crossfit boxes across are doing the “Beth WOD.”

There is a suggested $25 donation to do the workout, which highlights different aspects of her ALS journey:

- 30 minute AMRAP, because of the 30,000 people living with ALS in the U.S.

- 800 meter run (it took her 8 months to get diagnosed)

- 12 burpees (her birth month)

- 17 reverse lunges (her birth day)

- 65 double-unders (her birth year)

You can join the team and make your tax deductible donationto participate in the Beth WOD.  It is Saturday at her former gym Crossfit 757. The WOD will run from 8:30 - 11 a.m.  at 1081 W. 35th street in Norfolk.  You can also visit more than a dozen other boxesparticipating this weekend.
